Review: “Invasion of the Bee Girls” (1973)

Anyone who knows me knows, well, that I’m weird. 🙂 I like the offbeat, oddball, way-left-of-center stuff. Always have. So it’s not surprising I look for oddball and offbeat movies to watch or books to read.

We have several Roku Streaming Sticks at home, and I have added umpteen free channels in addition to the usual Netflix, Hulu, etc. It’s not uncommon for me to troll some of those free channels, looking for unusual, old, or rare movies to watch. Usually it’s horror or bad kung fu flicks. Yeah, I know my Achilles Heel. 🙂 Although I still kinda regret renting “Blood Orgy of the She-Devils” back in the eighties. I usually trot that one out when people ask for the worst movie I’ve ever seen. It’s definitely right up there. But at the same time, it’s like a bad car wreck. You can’t look away. 🙂

One day I was cruising one of the free horror channels available, and I ran across this one. It was just odd enough in title, I had to check it out.

As B-movies go, this might be a C- or D+ 🙂 It’s not horrible, but neither was it great. It did have, presuming you watch the R-rated version not the PG-rated version, a lot of nudity. But hey, it has Victoria Vetri, Playboy Playmate of the month as Angela Dorian for the month I was born, September 1967. So yeah, what do you expect? 🙂

The premise of the movie is men are dying mysteriously, and the cops are out to figure out why. It doesn’t take them long to figure out they’ve been sexed to death. So yeah, die with a smile, I suppose. 🙂 As the cops dig into the deaths, they find a twisty path of lusty women, bees, and, wait, aliens? Yes, of course, aliens.

So you can probably tell by the plot, this isn’t an Oscar winner. But it was a fun romp, pun intended, through a horror/thriller movie. And oh yeah, nudity too. But was it what I expected for the title and production quality? Yeah, it was. So it met expectations, but really didn’t exceed them.

If you want to check it out for yourself, it’s available for purchase through Amazon, and I’m sure through various streaming services.
